British Columbia artist Diana Miskell has been painting portraits of horses
and other critters
since her Pony Club days with the Ottawa Valley Hunt. After a career with the
Canadian Coast Guard Diana has retired and presently lives with her husband
Lance and her cat Genny (short for generic).
Diana says "Having at one time
owned and shown hunters and jumpers has, I believe, provided
me with a feeling for these incredible animals that helps in
my interpretation of them at work and at play. Cattle are another
interest of mine. Their bodies have such interesting angles and they are
often gentle and curious creatures.
Anatomical correctness is
important to me, so I strive to present the animals as realistically as
possible. I also like to present the horses or cattle in their day to
day environment, perhaps to tell a visual story about their lives."
Diana holds membership in the Federation of
Canadian Artists, the Surrey
Arts Council and the American Society of Bovine Artists. She has sold
numerous paintings of standardbred racehorses to their owners, and her paintings of cattle have also
been sold to private collectors.
